Interpretation of the Quote: “Communication skills are an essential component in the education of engineering students to facilitate not just students’ education but also to prepare them for their future careers.” Marc Riemer, Faculty of Engineering, Monash University (2007)

My interpretation of this quote consists of 2 main points. Firstly, communication is essential in collaboration between students

In this course, we often have to work in teams, often with individuals from different courses and backgrounds. we must be able to articulate our ideas to someone without engineering knowledge so that we can work together. moreover, we must be able to accurately convey ideas to others clearly so that we can ensure that no information is lost in the translation of that idea. Hence effective communication skills contribute to more effective working outcomes and a clearer exchange of ideas

Lastly, my second point, communication skills are essential in our future careers as it is an important aspect of our work.

more often than not, we are likely to find ourselves working with clients who approach us with problems and challenges that they seek our expertise to solve. These clients are often without any background in engineering. Communication skills come into play when we are trying to pitch our solution to the client as we have to be able to articulate our ideas, other than that, Good communication skills also ensure that the client understands us, which fosters better collaboration between us, which in turn ensures that we can come out with a solution that better suits the need of the client.
